"For many artists, the path to their craft comes through academia, galleries and mentorship, but The British Art Prize 2024 People's Choice winner Diane Griffiths journey took a refreshingly unconventional route. This Midlands-born artist - once entrenched in the London media world - made a leap to the Cornish coast."

Ramsha Vistro, Assistant Editor, Artists & Illustrators Magazine May 2025

Cornish Landscape Artist Diane Griffiths

Self-taught and hailing from the Midlands, working as a part time artist I moved to Newquay in 2017. Winner of ‘The People’s Choice Award’ 2024 in The British Art Prize and current top 50 finalist in the SAA Artists of the Year 2025, I paint what most people miss, with an added twist of showing how the beauty of everyday life, if seen through the right lens, is anything but ordinary. I particularly enjoy overlooked moments and blending them with the theme of ‘The Colour of Night’; how natural and man-made light can transform a landscape into something quietly extraordinary

“I love the fact that you’ve gone for a concept of, it’s that things we see every day but don’t necessarily ever stand out. Then someone like yourself goes and highlights them in such an amazingly, talented and beautiful way and suddenly you’re like, oh I know exactly where that is. And then suddenly that place becomes a feature in itself.”
