In this abstract portrayal of Trafalgar Square at night, the city’s reflection dances upon the surface of the fountain, held in a fleeting moment of time. The National Gallery, visible at the top of the painting, looms just above the water, its presence quietly mirrored in the ripples below. People ascend and descend the steps, unaware of how their own movements ripple through this ever-changing mirror. The mermaid fountains ensure that the water is always moving, and yet paradoxically, never leaves the confines of the fountain. Each ripple in the water tells the story of a changing city. Always present, always changing.
